🙋🏻‍♀️ Women over forty are doing what?

Hi, can we be honest? We love this newsletter community and we are so glad that you’re here. Would you do us a favor and share Ripe today?

When we think about who are readers are, we picture a woman, femme, or person who is non-binary probably between the ages of 25 to 70+ and they are adventurous. Not necessarily single but they like to go alone.

They aren’t afraid to go to the movies alone. They hike or go on long walks or road trips or travel alone. They go solo and sometimes going alone is easier than waiting for someone to go with them.

If they are married or in a partnership they may still like to steal away some solo time. Safety is normally top of mind. They enjoy the comforts that feeling safe and prepared brings.

They are women who are aware of the dangers in the world so they keep their heads on a swivel but go anyway. And they want to look out for other women.

If you know people like this, share Ripe with them. Ask them to join us as we work to make the world a safer and more equitable place for all women.

🙋🏻‍♀️ Women over 40 are fueling the adventure travel industry

âťť

“We know!”

women all over the world

We don’t always like to say “we told you so” but in this case, we’ve been shouting it from the rooftops. “Adventure travel for women is on the rise!” “Women want to go wherever and do whatever they want to!”

This is a wave we saw coming miles away so we got our sunscreen, and wet suit, stretched, hydrated, told our friends about it, and dove in.

Adventure travel is now being looked at as a “Growth Industry” thanks to women over forty. It is expected to be worth a whopping $2 trillion by 2023. That is the power and impact that women make when they decide to put their dollars somewhere.

And where are they putting those dollars? Towards exploration, adventure, living life!

Women comprise 57 percent of travelers who book through global travel companies, according to the Adventure Travel Trade Association. But when the travel company is woman-owned or led by women that number jumps to 64 percent.

Women-led adventure companies such as Wild Women Expeditions (WWE) or Sisters Traveling Solo or WHOA (Women High on Adventure).

According to this article in the Washington Post women over 65 represent the greatest recent increase in solo travel going from just 4 percent in 2029 to 18 percent in 2022.

Are we just like collectively raising a fit in the air and saying, “Hell yes ladies!” Go get you some life living.

It’s important for us at Ripe to acknowledge that adventure can look and mean a lot of different things. We like to discuss access to adventure and doing whatever your body and resources allow. Adventure travel doesn’t have to mean a fancy island excursion to go snorkeling with turtles, but that sounds amazing.

Adventure travel can also be hitting that hiking trail in your own state, going camping, or hitting the road to that nearby hot spring.

We also love love the group tours for women who might not want to go alone, because you know what, that’s okay!

And she’s six years old.

Are we surprised that fans and women are outraged at the most recent Oscars nominations? Oh, you haven’t heard? Well, Barbie was snubbed.

Technically, Barbie was nominated for eight different Oscars including American Ferrera for Best Supporting Actress which is so deserved.

But Greta Gerwig was left out of the run for Best Director and that one just hurts. Margot Robbie was also left out of the Best Actress in a Leading Role category.

NPR’s Linda Holmes, host of Pop Culture Happy Hour said, “People tend to talk about the screenplay nomination Gerwig earned with Noah Baumbach as though it’s inferior to a directing nomination, but is it, really? And Robbie was nominated as a producer when the film got a nod for Best Picture, and given what I’ve heard about the fact that her producing contributions were really active, that’s a real nomination, too.”

Ryan Gosling who played Ken and was nominated in the category for Best Supporting Actor said:

“No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit and genius. To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement,” Gosling continues. “Against all odds with nothing but a couple of soulless, scantily clad, and thankfully crotchless dolls, they made us laugh, they broke our hearts, they pushed the culture and they made history. Their work should be recognized along with the other very deserving nominees. Having said that, I am so happy for America Ferrera and the other incredible artists who contributed their talents to making this such a groundbreaking film.”
