Meet this 79-year-old solo female traveler 🌎
Women’s Adventure Film Tour 🎬
The first woman to finish the Barkley Marathons 😬
Meet Luisa Yu
"I saw all this beautiful mountain scenery, lakes and riding horses," she said. That's how I started dreaming and saying that one day I'm gonna see the world."
At 79 years old, Luisa Yu has accomplished something truly extraordinary: she's visited all 193 countries recognized by the United Nations!
From tasting dog meat (ew?) in North Korea to skydiving in Dubai at age 77, Luisa's travel tales are nothing short of epic. Her motto? "If I want to go somewhere, nobody can stop me."
Growing up in the Philippines, Luisa was inspired by the majestic landscapes she saw in American Western movies. Determined to see the world, she set out on her quest in her early 20s when she moved to the U.S. as an exchange student.
Despite visa restrictions and financial challenges, Luisa's wanderlust never waned. She worked multiple jobs, saved every penny, and even became a part-time travel agent to fuel her passion.
But the road to her world-traveling dream wasn't always smooth. It took her 15 years to get her green card, and she faced countless hurdles along the way. Yet, her unwavering determination kept her going, one adventure at a time.
And just when you think her journey couldn't get any more incredible, Luisa travels solo. She says “Why wait for someone to travel with? I don’t wait for anybody, if I don’t go now maybe it won’t happen. So I just go.”

Jasmin Paris becomes the first woman to finish the Barkley Marathon
This is absolutely insane. Talk about tough.
Jasmin Paris just made history by becoming the first woman ever to finish one of the world's toughest ultramarathons. She joins a group of only 20 people in the world to have completed it.
Jasmin conquered the Barkley Marathons in Tennessee with just one minute and 39 seconds to spare of the 60-hour cut-off. This is a race that was inspired by a famous prison escape and covers a grueling 100 miles with 60,000 feet of climb and descent—double the height of Mount Everest.
Jasmin, a 40-year-old vet from Midlothian, didn't just break records—she shattered them. She navigated through extreme terrain, ran through the night, and pushed herself to the limit. And guess what? She did it all with scratched legs from battling through dense forests and steep slopes.
But here's the best part—Jasmin's journey wasn't just about crossing the finish line. It was about redefining what's possible and showing the world the power of determination and grit. Even when faced with exhaustion and the toughest of challenges, Jasmin never gave up.
It really makes us feel better about walking just 35 miles over three days lol. We’ll be thinking about Jasmin as we Take Back the Trail.
